About Broadband Picks

Broadband Picks exists for one narrow reason: household internet packages are sold on numbers that rarely describe what arrives at the property. Advertised speeds are medians across an entire customer base. Prices exclude equipment, installation and a mid-contract rise that is written into the terms before you sign. We publish the comparison that the sales page leaves out.

What we cover

Connectivity types and what each one actually delivers at peak hours; tariff structures broken down across the whole term rather than the first bill; the hardware between the wall socket and your devices; and the switching mechanics that decide whether you can leave cheaply. Where a figure is published by a provider or a regulator, we say so. Where it comes from our own measurement, we say that too.

How the work is done

Every package is read the same way: headline price, equipment rental, installation charge, any mid-term adjustment, exit cost, and the speed profile at the busiest part of the evening. Those six figures are placed beside each other so the cheapest-looking offer and the cheapest actual offer can be told apart. Nothing is recommended on the strength of a press release, and no provider pays for a ranking.

Who writes here

Broadband Picks is written and maintained by Nicholas Burnham, who has spent years walking households through the gap between what they were promised and what they were billed. Questions, corrections and tariff updates are genuinely welcome — reach us through the contact page.
